I wanted to try my 2 new Cokin filters. Cokin 671 and Cokin 668, both gradual colored filters i´ve found for 5€ each on a really great tiny photography store in Lisbon. Both used but in an excellent condition. ( [link] This is a link to google maps showing the location of the store. It´s in the building in the middle of the map )

Yesterday I found some free time in the afternoon, and went to the beach. Get away from the stress.

I saw this rock buried on the sand, and made me remind a photo I took some months ago in Peninha - "Birth" because it really seems like something breaching from the belly of Mother Earth.

Technique:

I used a tripod and a cable trigger for this one. This way I could achieve really nice results. Yesterday I´ve tried the same kind of photo but without a cable.. the photos turn out all blurred.

I´ve buried the tripod really deep in the wet sand because if I didn´t each time a wave came, the tripod would move.

I´ve lost my ND8 filter so I had to wait the sun go down to decrease the shutter speed. Only used a normal GND4 to gain more tonal range and darken the sky.

I used a technique I haven´t used for a while. The Cokin 671 was fixed in the filter holder. But I handheld the 668. Each time I pushed the button I moved the filter up and down in front of the lens, so the violet color could spread all over the photo and could not be noticed that easily, not like the red one that you can easily see on the sky. The mix between the red and violet result in a really cool sky color.

This time I didn´t used a plastic bag like I use to, to protect the camera and lens. I didn´t get my material wet, but i´m finding some rusty screws on my camera. Most of my photos are taken near the sea, so I have to find a solution 1st to protect my camera more efeciantly and 2nd to get rid of that rust. Any suggestions?
